A lot has happened since you last heard from Selena Rosanbalm.
While she was touring out of state, her dog was hit and killed by a car. She stopped playing music altogether after her ex-boyfriend took his own life. Her most comfortable relationships became strained and tenuous. Her heart sunk when Donald Trump became president, but she was revitalized by the tidal wave of the #metoo movement. She was horrified by detention camps at the border and mass shootings country-wide.
The fresh subject matter inspired new sounds and styles in Rosanbalm’s writing. She chose to drop the band name to rid herself of musical restrictions or listener expectations. This collection of Rosanbalm’s songs journeys through the shock of loss and the fog of grief, the sting of disappointment and the injustice of sexism and racism, the bitterness of accepting a hard truth and the beauty of a lesson learned.
The self-titled album from Selena Rosanbalm reflects the many sides of her personality, with styles ranging from 90s country to heartbreak ballad to rock anthem.
