Heinrich Marschner was the acknowledged master of German Romantic opera between the time of Weber and Wagner. He also composed piano trios throughout his career that were much admired by Robert Schumann. Piano Trio No. 3 in F minor is weighty, notably vocal in style, and rhythmically incisive. Though lighter than the earlier work, the Piano Trio No. 4 in D major is dynamic and full of clarity with a seamless distribution of themes.
