Hatch- Modernity (Vinyl)

Modernity, the Destiny Records debut from the Austin-based jam/improv collective known as Hatch, is a sprawling triple vinyl dive into their music. The music ranges from psychedelic rock to jazz-funk grooves, reminiscent of Miles’ electric bands of the early ’70s. Led by bassist Elliot Morgan, Hatch specializes in spontaneous performances that feed off the talents and synergy of a rotating cast of musicians. On Modernity, the band features Mike Shields on trumpet, Nick Earl on guitar and autoharp, James Martinez on tenor saxophone, Clark Ericson on keyboards and piano, Nate Werth on percussion, and Tex Bosley and Mike Hodges on drums. The music is divided into three sections coinciding with each LP in the set: Past, Present, and Future, all culled from a two day session at Beardog Recording in Austin, TX, with George Shalda–who is responsible for the impeccable sounds throughout much of the Destiny Records’ catalog.
