Born out of the necessity to break free from past musical constraints, Stalefish is an Austin, Texas based, 6-piece band driven by the desire to explore new musical horizons. Wasting no time off the heels of their January 2024 debut, Stalefish Does America, the band is happy to share their sophomore album, It’s All Down Here From Hill.
Three lead singers (Dalton Hausman, Jake Magee, and Jack Ryon) wrote the songs that make up this album, each injecting their own tastes into the mix. Each songwriter provides their own take on Stalefish, with sometimes whimsical, yet always sincere and relevant lyricism. Musically, the band is better than ever. Thanks to friend and producer Sam Franklin, there is a fresh sheen to the band’s home-cooked sonic palette: injecting more modern sounds into their 90s/aughts rock as well as tasteful pop appeal. You’d almost expect to read about them while flipping through Meet Me in the Bathroom.
To the band, it feels like go time. With Magee moving to Pittsburgh to pursue a P.h.D., and singer/aux percussionist Avery Delost moving out of Austin, Stalefish is squeezing as much life as they can into this record while they’re all still together. They work their restaurant jobs, and they come home and write, record, film music videos, brainstorm, swim, watch tv, and drink beer together; a true American, summer after college record. It feels lived in, but it’s all happening in real time.
Stalefish captures the essence of navigating life’s uncertainties. The music authentically reflects their journey, a testament to their relentless pursuit of passion and a commitment to craft impactful, undeniable music.
It's All Down Here From Hill was released August 9th, 2024 via Austin, Texas based label Happen Twice.
