The "A Heap Of Broken Images" by Blue Sky Black Death, was originally released 20 years ago, in 2006. To mark the milestone, Old Soul Music is reissuing the album in it's entirety. "A Heap Of Broken Images" is the production duo's debut. It presents two complementary sides of their work: an instrumental, atmospheric record and a second segment with guest appearances by established MCs. Blue Sky Black Death combines dense, cinematic soundscapes, with classic hip-hop rhythms; the first half of the album makes use of live-played instruments, drawn-out melodies, and carefully layered samples, that leaves room for reflection. The second half pairs their sonic backdrops with MC features, putting beats and rhymes in a well-balanced harmony. Contributors include Jus Allah, Guru, A-Plus, Pep Love, Rob Sonic, and The Holocaust, allowing the album to showcase both the duo's instrumental production craft and their collaborative skills. The arrangements range from sparse piano passages to orchestral flourishes. The release marks the beginning of a career in which the duo further developed their characteristic melancholic, cinematic sound earning them recognition. The clear separation between instrumental and vocal sides makes the work a distinct statement of their early creative process.
