The Point is back with a brand new project, one that totally differs from their last slowed-up dirty south effort “Phonkadelic,” in that the music on this new joint was recorded completely live with drummer Alberto Telo. Instead of jazz fusion and blues inspired hip-hop beats, the little band from Austin takes cues from Texas psych and garage rock, Peruvian chicha, dub reggae and funk. These seven songs show off what The Point has been playing live at their shows around Texas during the year of 2022, so if you missed them on the stage, you can now most certainly bump their set in the whip, crib or your choice of cheap headphones. Joe Roddy plays the organ and left-hand synth bass, and Jack Montesinos covers the guitar and vocals. Nothing on “Berto’s Banquet” displays anything past a second take, due to time constraints at Nico’s studio in south Austin. So, embrace the raw! and smile at flubs.
